Creating a Notification

Creating a Notification is extremely simple (click on New Notification), but first an understanding of what Notifications are and how varied they can be displayed is imperative for you to get the most out of NotifyMe.

Think of Notifications as messages that can have Audio and Image files attached to them. Each Notification can be adjusted to display itself in a multitude of ways, for example: Text(Font, Size, Color, Bold, Italic & Underline), Audio Files (*.wav files), Images (*.jpg, *jpeg, *.bmp, displayed in a Pop-Up window, as a Full Screen Pop-Up window and even set as your Desktop Background). Play around with them to get the gist of different effects. For example: leaving the text field blank and audio field blank but having an Image only means that your notification when activated will only display the Image you selected. You may also over-ride settings in your notifications (should they annoy you at some point) by clicking on the options button and de-selecting certain aspects of NotifyMe. For example: Deselecting 'Text, Image & selecting Mute but leaving Balloon messages turned on will force all of your Text messages to be displayed in Balloon bubbles just above the NotifyMe icon in your desktop tray. Adjust the settings to suit your purposes. Some example configurations are listed below:

Balloons Only: Mute(Tick), Text(Un-Ticked), Image(Un-Ticked), Balloons(Ticked)

Images Only: Mute(Tick), Text(Un-Ticked), Image(Ticked), Balloons(Un-Ticked)

Audio Only: Mute(Un-Ticked), Text(Un-Ticked), Image(Un-Ticked), Balloons(Un-Ticked)

Text Only: Mute(Ticked), Text(Ticked), Image(Un-Ticked), Balloons(Un-Ticked)

Creating a Notification

First of all you will need an empty slot in order to create a Notification from scratch. At the bottom of the main program you will see a list, it may be empty or if this is your first time using NotifyMe you will see examples loaded in the demo file. You can either left-click your mouse on an empty slot or click on the small button marked 'i' (Next to fonts) and this will automatically take you to the next available slot. Should you fill all 100 slots a message will be displayed telling you the NotifyMe file is full. The program has been limited to 100 slots in order to prevent and minimize background cpu usage so you can work your other programs without loss of operating speed. Should you fill a file with 100 Notifications you can always save the file and create a new NotifyMe file and switch to whatever file fills your needs for the day.

The next thing you will need to do in order to make your first Notification is to either enter some text in the 'Message' field or attach an Image file (by clicking on the Image button) or/and add an audio file (by clicking on the Audio button). Adjust the Font properties (i.e. color and size etc) as you would in any other word-processing program. You will see the changes you make be displayed in the miniature preview pane. If you have attached an Image file to the Notification you can adjust how it will be displayed by clicking on the drop down list called 'Image Mode'. From here you can choose whether it should be a mini pop-up, full screen pop-up or as your Desktop Background. If you elect to use the image as your Desktop Background and you want to revert back to your original background you will need to do so in Windows Desktop Properties, where you will notice an entry has been made called 'NotifyMe Background' should you want to change it manually again later.

As you are entering your Notification details you can 'preview' how your Notification will look by clicking on the 'preview' button. The program will display how your Notification will actually look like with your current settings and options. Note that if you have selected 'Background' as your Image mode the preview function will make the changes to your Desktop Background immediately. Which is useful if you simply want to change backgrounds without too much fussing about.

While a Notification is being displayed as a pop-up you can click on it to make it immediately disappear and return to work or play.

Finally you need to choose whether you want Timed or Countdown mode to activate the Notification. Timed mode means the Notification will activate at a certain time e.g. 9:00 and Countdown mode will simply count down a time frame of your choice e.g. 30s (30 seconds). All time mode entries are in 24 hour format e.g. h16 m30 s0 is 4:30pm. If you were to click on Countdown with the same entry in the time field NotifyMe would countdown 16 hours and 30 minutes.

Once you have you Notification set up with enough information (i.e. a message, image or audio & a Time) you need to Activate it by clicking on the ‘Start’ button (the Green Play button) and away it goes. You can ‘Stop’ & ‘Pause’ the notification at any time through the submenus or buttons.

If you tick the repeat check box your Notification will repeat itself indefinitely until you order it to stop. Leaving the check box empty means that your Notification will play itself once and then Stop itself, waiting for orders to start again.

Exiting NotifyMe

You will also notice that when you click on Minimize '_' or Close 'x' that NotifyMe will still run in the System Tray in background mode. To exit NotifyMe either Right Click on the icon in the System Tray and select Exit or from within NotifyMe's main menu under 'File >> Exit'. This will exit the program completely.
Options and settings

Image pops up on screen - Even if your NotifyMe file has Images attached to it, you can over-ride the display of those pictures by Un-Ticking this box. This saves you having to modify each and every Notification allowing you to either temporarily or permanently disable Images. Having the box Ticked obviously allows those Images to be displayed in the fashion you elected.

Text pops up on screen - You can over-ride the display of text messages by Un-Ticking this box. This saves you having to modify each and every Notification allowing you to either temporarily or permanently disable Text Notification messages. Note that this does not include System Tray Balloon pop ups, see below.

Pop-up balloon message from System Tray - You can over-ride the display of System Tray balloon pop-ups by Un-Ticking this box. This saves you having to modify each and every Notification allowing you to either temporarily or permanently disable System Tray balloon pop-up messages. The System Tray balloon pop-up will only display the text you have entered into the 'Message' field and it will not have any of the text formatting options i.e. it will be displayed in your current operating system settings.

PopUp Duration - Here you can choose how long you want a notification message to be displayed on screen for. I.e., should you want it to last for 10 seconds then replace the number in this field with 10. NotifyMe has been limited intentionally from 1 to 30 seconds for your safety. While a Notification is being displayed as a pop-up you can click on it to make it immediately disappear and return to work or play.

Mute - Turn sound on or off.

Start Minimized - If this option is ticked NotifyMe will load and run in the System Tray in minimized mode. You can restore NotifyMe at any time by clicking on the NotifyMe icon the Taskbar Icon Tray.

Load NotifyMe when windows starts - If this option is Ticked NotifyMe will automatically load itself each time you start your computer system. If it is unticked this will not occur and you can start NotifyMe from the start menu or your desktop icon.

Default Startup File - If you want a file to be automatically loaded when NotifyMe starts you can select one by click on the '...' button or double clicking on the existing filename, even if it has 'None' inside it. 'None' will cause NotifyMe to load with an empty file and do nothing at all. To have 'None' inserted into the Default Startup File field simply click on the 'c' button to the left of it. 'c' represents clear, like on calculators.
Countdown options

NotifyMe has two different timing mechanisms for you to choose from, Countdown & Timed.

Countdown - If you click on the 'Countdown' button the Notification you have currently selected will be forced in to Countdown mode. So that when you enter in your hours minutes and seconds NotifyMe will count down that time frame and activate the Notification when it reaches zero.

Timed - Clicking on the 'Time' button will have the currently selected Notification forced in to Timed mode. So that when you enter in your hours minutes and seconds NotifyMe will activate the Notification when it reaches the desired time. Note that time in NotifyMe is in 24hour format only.
Display options

Pop-Up - Your selected image will be displayed in a small pop-up window, about 1/3 the size of your screen at the very centre. Click on it to make it immediately disappear.

Full Screen - The image will be blown up or shrunk to fit the entire width and length of your screen, temporarily hiding everything. Click on it to make it immediately disappear.

Background - Your Desktop Background will be assigned the Image you have elected. This option will not interrupt or display over the top of any other running programs. You may wish to use this option continuously so as to make NotifyMe work as an automatic Desktop Background changer.
